The DCA3K Down Converter Assembly Figure 4 (top), Figure 5 (bottom) accepts a 2.1 to 3.0 GHz signal at the RF input port and produces a 100 to 1000 MHz signal at the IF output port. Applications of this Down Converter Assembly include power and frequency measurement of equipment operating in the Amateur Radio 13 cm band and the 2.4 GHz wireless band.
Refer to Figure 1 during the following explanation. The RF signal is first amplified by 15 dB (power gain of the MWA32C from 2.1 to 2.6 GHz) and then mixed with a 2 GHz, 7 dBm level driving the RMA3K mixer LO port. The IF output of the mixer is first filtered by a low pass filter to remove LO - IF leakage power and then amplified by approximately 20 dB ( power gain of the MWA32A from 100 to 1000 MHz). The Down Converter DC power requirement is 18 volts, 100 mA.
Performance in the 2.1 to 3.0 GHz range with a -50 dBm signal driving to the RF port is provided in the table shown below and also in the plot of Figure 2.

The components of image 3 are mounted with spacers to a BUD P/N BPA-1593 bottom plate and RF shielding is provided by a BUD P/N AC-406 chassis secured to the bottom plate with sheet metal screws. The AC-406 chassis inside has a 9 X 7 inch sheet of conductive foam plastic glued to the inside top surface to attenuate the electric field and prevent amplifier oscillation. The assembled unit is shown in Figures 5 - 7.
